Converting to Hammock Camping
Thursday, 23 October 2008 15:56

During the annual camping with my cousins at Acadia National Park, I had only one impulse buy (after all the Canadian dollar was still high) after seeing this item in use while doing a solo overnight: a hammock.

I picked up an Eagles Nest Outfitters's Singlenest hammock. This is basically a lighweight, parachute material type of hammock that supports up to 400 lbs. It was cheaper than expected and packed really, really small.

I've heard about a group of scout leaders in the area using hammocks instead of tents when camping, so I decided to give this a try.

Where did my Tourism Dollars go in 2008?
Thursday, 28 August 2008 20:33

With Labor Day weekend coming up, and the camping gear is packed away for another season. So where did our tourism dollars go in 2008? Gas prices certainly affected our radius of travel. When you break it down, it cost about 10$ more per tank to fill-up our car this year as compared to last year. That may not seem like a lot, but it amounted to at least another night stay during the season.
